Trumpeter Landfrey sounds the charge of the Light Brigade.

Fenton Light Brigade.

Trumpeteer Landfrey was one of the surviving trumpeters from the ill-fated Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava on the 25th of October, 1854. In this recording from the year 1890, he sounds the same charge as he did on that fateful day, with a bugle that itself was becoming part of history at the time, as it had been used at the battle of Waterloo in 1815.

Listen to the fascinating and all too short wax cylinder recording here in mp3 format.
